Valorant changes in map pool

With the upcoming launch of Valorant Episode 8, Riot Games is preparing to introduce changes to the map pool, bringing back the map Icebox after a hiatus of nearly 250 days. The current rotation includes Icebox, Lotus, Ascent, Sunset, Breeze, Bind, and Split. Icebox is set to replace Haven temporarily, and Lotus will be the only three-site map available. Fracture, Pearl, and Haven will be sidelined for adjustments.

Icebox, known for its polarizing gameplay, is expected to return with potential changes to its layout. Initial speculations suggested adjustments, but prominent dataminers, such as @KLaboratories, hinted that playtests of layout changes were discarded, indicating that the map might retain its original design. Despite this, another leaker, @ValorLeaks, suggested that changes are still in the works for Icebox’s layout.

In addition to Icebox, the Lotus map is expected to undergo changes in Episode 8. Leaks from patch 7.05 last year hinted at alterations to Lotus, and reputable leaker @ValorLeaks mentioned that these changes are set to be included in the upcoming episode. A leaked image from the “Jam_Changes_2023.umap” game file indicated potential alterations to the Lotus map, internally referred to as “Jam.” Several sources have provided sneak peeks into expected changes, focusing on significant locations like the C site chokepoint, C-Bend, C site cubby, B-Default, and A-Link.

The introduction of these map changes aligns with Riot Games’ approach to maintaining a balanced and dynamic gameplay experience for players, especially in professional matches. The rotation of maps aims to keep the learning curve manageable for both newcomers and experienced players, fostering a healthy and engaging competitive environment. Episode 8 is set to commence on either January 9 or January 10, 2024, with regional adjustments in timings.

The anticipated return of Icebox, along with potential alterations to both Icebox and Lotus, adds an element of excitement to the Valorant community as they prepare for the upcoming episode. As Riot Games continues to refine and rotate the map pool, players can expect a fresh and dynamic competitive landscape in the evolving world of Valorant.
